What is Bridging Divides?
We are living in challenging times. Up and down the country we're seeing communities feeling more divided, and crises becoming harder to deal with. So, rather than ignore what’s happening, we want to bring people together to do something about it.
Bridging Divides is the new way for all of us in the UK to come together, understand why we feel so divided, and how we can make a difference.

How do I get involved?
It can be hard to know where to start when trying to bridge divides in our day-to-day lives.
So, together with the Bridging Divides community, we've produced a podcast to help us begin to navigate this. In this free three-part series, hosted by journalist and broadcaster Sonali Shah, you’ll hear from a range of expert guests on the big topics that matter, including:
- Why is it a struggle to talk about divisive topics?
- How can we avoid arguments on the issues we care about?
- What drives our beliefs, and how can we learn from other perspectives?
Alongside each episode, we’ll send you our expert-recommended actions that you can take away to help bridge the divides in your everyday life.
What's next?
Once you join the Bridging Divides community, you’ll be sent weekly episodes of our first podcast series, as well as practical tools and inspiring stories, straight to your inbox.
After this:
- We will send resources to help you navigate division with friends, family, or your community.
- You can help shape the community by sharing your thoughts, ideas and experiences.
- You’ll be the first to hear when we launch new initiatives, such as a new podcast series, or other ways you can advocate or take action to help build compassion in a divided world.
- We will share updates on the impact that we’re making together on Bridging Divides.
The role of the British Red Cross in Bridging Divides
As part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement, we’re guided by a set of principles that shape how we act. These principles enable us to reach across divides, to support everyone who needs us, whenever they need us. At their core is our commitment to not take sides – instead we stand for humanity.
Like many people across the UK, we’re worried about the growing feeling of division in our society. So together, let’s learn how to stand for humanity and what we can do to show up with compassion in divided times.
